STEPHEN COLBERT
Stephen Colbert is the executive producer and host of his own Emmy and Peabody Award-winning series on Comedy Central, “The Colbert Report.” Praised by the New York Times and Entertainment Weekly as “the best show of the year”, “The Colbert Report” has quickly risen to be one of the most successful shows on television.
The show launched on October 17, 2005. Since its premiere, the series has garnered several awards including a Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting as well as 15 primetime Emmy nominations. BACKGROUND
Stephen Colbert was born and raised near Charleston, South Carolina. Colbert graduated from Northwestern University and went on to become a member of Chicago’s infamous Second City improve group. While working with the group, Colbert met fellow comedians and future success stories, Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello. The three eventually moved to New York where they created and starred in a half-hour sketch comedy series known as “Exit 57”. The show ran for three seasons on Comedy Central and was nominated for five CableACE awards. Colbert, Sedaris, and Dinello were the genius behind Comedy Central’s popular series, “Strangers with Candy”.
Colbert is married to his wife, Evelyn. The couple has three children and all reside in the New York Metropolitan Area.
CAREER
Since 1997, Colbert was the longest-tenured and probably the most diverse correspondent on “The Daily Show with Jon Steward”. He contributed to the show’s Emmy and Peabody Awards and became known a distinct comic personality and writer for news satire. Colbert has contributed his satire expertise to several books including AMERICA (THE BOOK): A Citizen’s Guide to Democracy Inaction as well as the critically acclaimed Wigfield (Hyperion).
Stephen Colbert has made a name for himself with “The Colbert Report”. In fact, several animals, jets, and mascots have been named after him, including Steagle Colbeagle the Eagle (mascot), Colbertle the Turtle (leatherback turtle), and Air Colbert (Virgin America jet).
Colbert’s book, I AM AMERICA (And So Can You!) had a 29 week stint on the New York Times Bestseller’s list, occupying the #1 spot for 13 weeks.
