Stephen Colbert was born on May 13, 1964.
As a child, Stephen Colbert grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. Wanting to pursue a career as an actor, Stephen Colbert attended the Northwestern University and studied acting.
He joined the Second City comedy troupe and performed in Chicago. This led him to team up with Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris to produce Exit 57 in 1995. The 30-minute sketch comedy series was aired for a year in one of America’s television channels, Comedy Central. Apart from Stephen Colbert, Amy Sedaris, and Paul Dinello, a few other humorists including Mitch Rouse and Jodi Lennon were also part of the Exit 57 cast.
In 1996, Stephen Colbert continued to work with Amy Sedaris, Paulo Dinello and Mitch Rouse to create another comedy show for Comedy Central, Strangers with Candy.
Stephen Colbert’s skills as a writer, comedian, political satirist, and television host have earned him various awards including a Grammy award, an Emmy Award, as well as a Peabody Award.
Nowadays, Stephen Colbert is seen nationwide as the host of The Colbert Report, another satirical news show produced by Comedy Central. The Colbert Report is currently one of Comedy Central’s highest rated series. Due to the success of the show, Stephen Colbert was nominated for three Emmy awards.
Apart from this, his skills as a political satirist has led him to perform at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, which was held last 2006.
That same year, Stephen Colbert was also hailed as one of the 100 most influential people by Time magazine.
In addition to his TV appearances, Stephen Colbert is also a New York Times best-selling author. He wrote “I am America (And so can you!)” and was a co-author of the book “America (the book)”.
Colbert lives in New Jersey with his wife, Evelyn and their three children.
